Fixing Office Activation Problems

Activation errors can appear even with a valid subscription due to account issues, licensing cache problems, or connectivity issues.

Step 1: Check Subscription Status

Go to account.microsoft.com/services
Verify your Microsoft 365 subscription is active
If expired, renew your subscription
If active, proceed to Step 2

Step 2: Sign Out and Back In

Open Word
Go to File > Account
Click Sign Out
Close Word completely
Reopen Word and sign in with the correct Microsoft account

Step 3: Run the Activation Troubleshooter

Go to File > Account
Under Product Information, click Troubleshoot
If no troubleshoot option, download the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant
Run the tool and follow its instructions

Step 4: Reset Office Licensing

Close all Office apps
Open Command Prompt as Administrator
Navigate to the Office folder:
- cd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office16" or
- cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office16"
Run: cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus to check current license status
Run: cscript ospp.vbs /act to attempt reactivation

Step 5: Repair Office Installation

Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features
Find Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365
Click Modify > Online Repair
This reinstalls licensing components
