Why won't Word let me set margins smaller than 0.5 inches?

Your printer has minimum margin requirements. Word warns you when margins are outside the printable area. For PDF output, you can use smaller margins. Set them via Layout > Margins > Custom Margins.

Step 1: Set Margins for the Entire Document

Press Ctrl+A to select all
Go to Layout > Margins > Custom Margins
