Why Track Changes Aren’t Visible

Track Changes can be active (recording changes) but invisible if the display mode is set to hide them.

Step 1: Change Markup Display Mode

1. Go to the Review tab
2. Find the Tracking group
3. Click the dropdown that says the current view mode
4. Select All Markup to show all changes inline

Display modes explained:

• Simple Markup: Shows a red line in the margin where changes exist
• All Markup: Shows all insertions, deletions, and formatting changes inline
• No Markup: Shows the document as if all changes were accepted (changes are still there)
• Original: Shows the document before any changes were made

Step 2: Check Markup Type Filters

1. Go to Review > Show Markup
2. Ensure these are checked:
   • Comments
   • Insertions and Deletions
   • Formatting
3. Check Specific People and ensure All Reviewers is selected

Step 3: Check Balloons vs. Inline

1. Go to Review > Show Markup > Balloons
2. Choose your preference:
   • Show Revisions in Balloons — changes appear in margin balloons
   • Show All Revisions Inline — changes appear in the text
   • Show Only Comments and Formatting in Balloons — mixed view

Step 4: Verify Track Changes Is On

1. Check the Review tab — Track Changes button should be highlighted/active
2. If it’s off, changes aren’t being recorded
3. Click Track Changes to enable it

Accepting or Rejecting Changes

• Accept one change: Right-click the change > Accept
• Accept all: Review > Accept > Accept All Changes
• Reject one: Right-click > Reject
• Reject all: Review > Reject > Reject All Changes
