A practical Word check
Find what makes your Word file large.
See the space used by images, embedded objects, fonts and other document parts. Your file stays in this browser and your original is unchanged.
DOCX only, up to 50 MiB (52,428,800 bytes). This reads the package directory; it does not decompress or display your document.
Choose a file to see its size breakdown.
What occupies the file
Total file size:
| Package contents | Parts | Stored size | Share of file |
|---|
Largest media parts
These are stored package sizes, not predicted savings. A media part may be reused or no longer visible in the document. This does not check Word’s page layout, document integrity or whether every part is used.

What to review in Word
Save a separate copy before changing quality or removing embedded data.
- If images dominate: in Word for Windows, select a picture, then Picture Format → Compress Pictures. Choose quality for your intended use. Removing cropped image data prevents restoring those cropped areas.
- If fonts take space: review File → Options → Save. Font embedding helps preserve appearance on other devices; removing it may change how the document looks.
- If embedded objects take space: inspect the spreadsheets or other objects in Word and decide which are still needed. This checker cannot tell whether an object is used or safe to remove.
- If other document parts dominate, this check cannot identify a safe automatic fix. Review the document in Word. Do not accept tracked changes or delete comments just to shrink a file without reviewing their purpose.
Supported files and limits
Standard, unencrypted DOCX packages with up to 2,000 entries. Legacy DOC, macro-enabled DOCM, encrypted files and unusual packages are not supported. The checker does not compress, repair, rewrite or upload your file.
