A practical Word check

Find the tracked changes and comments in a Word file.

See how many insertions, deletions, moves, formatting changes and comments a DOCX contains, and whether Word is set to hide them. Your file stays in this browser and your original is unchanged.

Optional: download a separate copy with every tracked change accepted (or rejected), all comments removed and Track Changes turned off. Review the copy in Word before you share it.

DOCX only, up to 25 MB. The file is read in this browser and is not uploaded.

Choose a file to see its tracked changes and comments.

Fixing it in Word instead

  • To see all markup: on the Review tab, set Display for Review to All Markup, then open Show Markup and tick Comments, Insertions and Deletions and Formatting.
  • To remove tracked changes: on the Review tab, use Accept, then Accept All Changes (or Reject, then Reject All Changes). Then turn off Track Changes.
  • To remove comments: on the Review tab, use Delete, then Delete All Comments in Document.
  • Check headers, footers, footnotes and text boxes too, as tracked changes there are easy to miss.

Supported files and limits

Standard, unencrypted DOCX files up to 25 MB with up to 1,000 package entries. Legacy DOC, macro-enabled DOCM, encrypted, signed and protected documents are not supported for copies. The checker does not upload, repair or compare documents, and it does not recover text that was deleted without tracking.
